In my Engineering Physics class (Mr. Martens, Instructor) we were asked to design a way to have the door handles of the school … copper.
So far, we went through these steps:
Problem Definition: Reduce viral and bacterial pathogen spreading at PHS
Research: Copper has strong anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties
Create Concept Drawings: Of our solutions to get copper coating on existing doorhandles at PHS
Presentation drawing: “Sell your solution” to an audience of “decision-makers”. try to use existing technologies in new applications
Students were challenged to address getting copper on the door handles at Princeton High School. My idea is to design and create mesh covers. Most of those are lever style and this would fit right over top. Cost, efficiency in installation and aesthetics were prioritized.
Mr. Martens made it clear that there are often many possible solutions to one problem. The best solution is determined by the circumstances and is not absolute and … having the idea is often the easy part, research, development and implementation is the hard part.
